“Choose Your Hard” Wellness Tool

Welcome to Course Six of the Wellness Walk.

Life brings hard moments—some we choose, and some we never asked for. Your “hard” may look like surviving a season that feels unfamiliar, carrying pain or memories others don’t see, or starting over when it feels like nothing has worked before.

Whatever your hard looks like, you are not alone, and it does not define who you are or what you are capable of.

This session is about recognizing that even when life feels overwhelming, you still have the power to make one small, strong choice at a time. You don’t have to take a giant leap.
You just have to take one brave step.

This session is broken into three simple parts: Reveal, Reflect, and React. Each part is designed to be manageable and intentional.

Real-Life Examples:

“Growth-Focused” Hard

  • Trying something new, even if it’s uncomfortable, knowing it might open doors you could never have imagined

  • Saying “no” kindly and learning that your needs matter too

  • Writing your feelings down or talking to someone who won’t judge you

  • Asking someone to go with you, or breaking it down into one small step at a time.

  • Taking just one small action today, even if it’s just making a list of goals.

  • Continue to keep going, ask again, and believe that the right support will walk alongside you and help you meet your needs.

“Staying Stuck” Hard

  • Saying “I haven’t worked in years. I don’t know how to talk in front of people. I don’t think I’m ready.”

  • Saying “yes” to everyone, even when it hurts you

  • Holding in emotions, because crying or being angry feels unsafe

  • Avoiding appointments or paperwork, because it feels overwhelming

  • Feeling like nothing will ever change, so you stop trying

  • Feeling rejected and disappointed when it seems like no one has been able to help, or resources aren't coming through.

Key Reminder:
You don’t get to avoid hard—but you do get to choose the hard that leads to growth.
