Habits & Patterns as a Wellness Tool
Welcome to Course Four of the Wellness Walk.
Our daily habits shape our lives in ways we often don’t notice. Habits can be small actions repeated over time, but they create patterns that influence our health, relationships, productivity, and overall well-being. Some habits build us up, while others may quietly hold us back. This session is designed to help you recognize your habits, reflect on their impact, and take small steps toward positive change.
This session is broken into three simple parts: Reveal, Reflect, and React. Each part is designed to be manageable and intentional.
Why Habits Matter
Habits are the building blocks of our daily lives. They can be positive—like exercising, reading, or practicing gratitude—or negative—like skipping meals, procrastinating, or excessive phone use. Over time, these habits create patterns that shape your physical, emotional, and social environment.
Healthy Habits Examples:
Drinking enough water daily
Regular physical activity
Practicing mindfulness or journaling
Prioritizing sleep
Connecting intentionally with loved ones
Unhealthy Habits Examples:
Excessive screen time, especially first thing in the morning or before bed
Skipping meals or poor nutrition
Avoiding responsibilities or procrastinating
Negative self-talk
Isolating from friends or family
Key Points:
Every habit contributes to a larger pattern of behavior.
Patterns can be helpful or harmful depending on how consistently you practice them.
Awareness is the first step toward change.
Today's Task: Please watch this video on how habits are formed in our brains:
As you watch, remember this session is meant to be encouraging rather than stressful. Notice any ideas that resonate with you and think about areas in your life that may be improved by forming new habits.
