1) What Has Been Disrupting My Peace?
Knowing that God offers peace does not mean that we will never struggle with anxiety, fear, or inner chaos.
Sometimes our hearts can feel like they are constantly on alert.
We replay conversations.
We anticipate rejection.
We worry about what someone thinks.
We imagine everything that could go wrong.
We try to prepare for every possible outcome.
We become frustrated when people do not respond the way we hoped.
We attempt to control circumstances because uncertainty feels unsafe.
And sometimes, without realizing it, we begin living in a constant state of striving.
We are physically present, but internally we are fighting battles that no one else can see.
God invites us into something different.
Not a life without problems.
A life where we do not have to carry every problem alone.
Reflect:
What has been disrupting my peace lately?
What thoughts seem to repeatedly create anxiety or inner chaos?
What situation do I keep replaying or worrying about?
2) When Fear Enters the Picture
Fear can make us believe that control is the answer.
We may think:
“If I can just figure this out, I'll feel better.”
“If I can make them understand, I'll feel better.”
“If I can prevent rejection, I'll be safe.”
“If I can predict what happens next, I won't be anxious.”
“If I can make everything go according to plan, I'll finally have peace.”
But control can become exhausting.
The more we try to control what is outside our control, the more anxious we can become.
Fear tells us:
“You have to manage everything.”
God says:
“Trust Me.”
Fear says:
“You have to know what happens next.”
God says:
“I will be with you.”
Fear says:
“You are not safe unless you control the outcome.”
God says:
“Cast your anxiety on Me because I care for you.”
Reflect:
What fear is underneath my need for control?
What am I afraid will happen if I surrender this situation?
How has fear affected my ability to experience God's peace?
3) The Difference Between Surrender and Giving Up
Surrender can sometimes sound like weakness.
But biblical surrender is not giving up.
It is giving something to God.
Giving up says:
“There is nothing I can do.”
Surrender says:
“I have done what I can, and I trust God with what I cannot do.”
Giving up says:
“I don't care anymore.”
Surrender says:
“God, I care deeply, but I trust You with the outcome.”
Giving up is hopelessness.
Surrender is faith.
There are things we are responsible for.
We can communicate.
We can make wise decisions.
We can establish boundaries.
We can apologize.
We can ask for help.
We can take action.
But after we have done what we can, we have to release the outcome to God.
“Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7
God does not ask us to carry what belongs in His hands.
Reflect:
What am I carrying that I need to surrender?
What is my responsibility in this situation?
What part of the outcome belongs to God?
4) Stillness in the Presence of God
Our world is constantly moving.
Notifications.
Responsibilities.
Conversations.
Work.
Relationships.
Noise.
Information.
Expectations.
Sometimes we never stop long enough to hear what is happening inside our own hearts.
Stillness can feel uncomfortable.
But Scripture repeatedly invites us to slow down and recognize God.
Psalm 46:10 says:
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Stillness is not simply about sitting quietly.
It is about intentionally creating space to remember:
God is here.
We can breathe.
We can slow down.
We can pray.
We can sit quietly.
We can allow our bodies and minds to settle in God's presence.
Sometimes peace begins when we stop running long enough to receive it.
Reflect:
When was the last time I intentionally sat in silence with God?
What makes stillness difficult for me?
What might God want me to notice when I become quiet?
5) Peace Does Not Mean No Problems
Jesus never promised a life without trouble.
He said:
“In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33
This means peace is not the absence of problems.
Peace is knowing that problems do not have the final authority.
We can have peace while something is unresolved.
We can have peace while waiting.
We can have peace while grieving.
We can have peace while making difficult decisions.
We can have peace while someone else is unhappy with us.
We can have peace while we do not know what happens next.
Why?
Because our peace is not ultimately dependent on the situation.
It is dependent on Christ.
Reflect:
Have I been waiting for a problem to disappear before allowing myself to experience peace?
What would it look like to experience God's peace before the situation is resolved?
Where do I need to trust Jesus in the middle of an unresolved situation?
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
I bring You the fear, anxiety, and inner chaos that have disrupted my peace.
You know the things I replay in my mind.
You know the outcomes I have tried to control.
You know the rejection I fear and the uncertainty that makes me uncomfortable.
Lord, help me understand what is mine to carry and what I need to surrender to You.
Teach me that surrender is not weakness. It is trust.
Help me do what You have called me to do while releasing the outcomes into Your hands.
Quiet my mind.
Slow my thoughts.
Settle my spirit.
Teach me to become comfortable with stillness so that I can recognize Your presence.
When I feel anxious, remind me to breathe, pray, and surrender.
When I feel the need to control, remind me that You are God.
When I feel uncertain, remind me that You already know what comes next.
Help me remember that peace does not mean that there are no problems.
Peace means that I do not have to face my problems without You.
Thank You for caring about me.
Thank You for carrying what I cannot.
Thank You for being my anchor when everything around me feels uncertain.
Amen.
Declare Over Yourself
I do not have to control everything.
I can surrender what I cannot control.
Surrender is an act of faith.
God cares about what I am carrying.
I can bring my anxiety to Him.
I can slow down.
I can be still before God.
I do not have to solve everything today.
I do not have to know every outcome.
I can trust God in uncertainty.
Peace does not require perfect circumstances.
I can experience peace while things are unresolved.
Jesus has overcome the world.
God is my anchor.
I choose surrender over striving.
I choose stillness over chaos.
I choose trust over control.
I choose peace.
