Day One: Love (P1)

“When fear, rejection, or self-protection holds us back from giving and receiving love, the prescription is to practice safe connection, forgiveness, vulnerability, and love without requiring anything in return.”

1 John 4:18 — “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear...”
John 15:12 — “Love each other as I have loved you.”

What Does God Reveal About Love?

Love is at the very heart of who God is.

God's love is not simply a feeling or emotion that comes and goes. It is a deep, steadfast commitment to His people. Human love can change. People can disappoint us, reject us, leave us, or fail to love us the way we hoped they would. But God's love is different.

God's love is steady when our circumstances are not.

We do not have to earn God's love by performing well or having everything figured out. Scripture shows us that God loved us first and demonstrated that love by sending Jesus for us.

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” — 1 John 4:10

1) God's Love Is:

Unconditional
God's love is not based on our performance or our ability to earn it. We do not have to become perfect before we can come to Him.

Sacrificial
God demonstrated His love by giving His Son, Jesus Christ, for our redemption. God's love is not merely something He says—it is something He demonstrates.

Holy and Pure
God's love is never selfish, manipulative, or sinful. His love seeks what is truly good and right.

Steadfast and Everlasting
Human relationships can change, but God's love remains. He says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3).

Gracious and Merciful
God does not treat us only according to what we deserve. His love makes room for forgiveness, restoration, and a new beginning.

Present
God does not disappear when life becomes difficult. He meets us in our pain, provides for us, comforts us, and remains near.

2) God's Love Was Shown Through Jesus

The greatest picture of God's love is Jesus.

God did not wait until humanity became perfect before offering redemption. Christ came while we were still sinners.

Romans 5:8 says:
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

God's love does not ignore our brokenness or pretend sin does not matter. His love is holy, but it also makes a way for forgiveness and restoration.

This means that when we struggle to believe that we are loved, we can look to the cross.

The cross reminds us: God did not just say He loves us. He showed us.

3) God's Love Changes How We Love Others

Jesus gave us a command:

“Love each other as I have loved you.” — John 15:12

We are not simply called to receive God's love. We are called to allow His love to flow through us.

That means love becomes more than a feeling.

Love can look like:

• Forgiving someone who has hurt us.

• Showing patience when someone is difficult.

• Listening when someone needs to be heard.

• Offering encouragement when someone feels discouraged.

• Serving someone without expecting something in return.

• Choosing compassion instead of judgment.

• Being willing to connect instead of always withdrawing.

• Telling the truth with grace.

• Loving others without making their response determine our worth.

Remember:

God's love is the foundation.

We do not love others so that God will love us.

We love because He first loved us.

Reflect

• If I truly believed that God's love for me was secure, everlasting, and not dependent on my performance, what would change about the way I see myself and love others.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for loving me with a love that I could never earn and that does not depend on my performance. Thank You for showing me Your love through Jesus and reminding me that I am deeply loved, even in my weakness, brokenness, and imperfections.

Lord, I recognize that fear, rejection, disappointment, and past hurt can sometimes cause me to build walls around my heart. Help me recognize where I have allowed self-protection to keep me from giving or receiving love.

Teach me to trust Your love as my foundation. Help me remember that my worth is not determined by whether someone accepts me, chooses me, understands me, or loves me in return. When fear tells me to withdraw, remind me that Your perfect love drives out fear.

Give me wisdom to build healthy relationships and safe connections. Give me courage to be vulnerable when it is safe to do so, grace to forgive those who have hurt me, and strength to love others without expecting anything in return.

Help me love as Jesus loved—with patience, kindness, compassion, humility, forgiveness, and truth. Let Your love flow through me so that the way I treat others reflects the love You have shown me.

Father, help me receive Your love more deeply so that I can freely give love to others. May I never forget that I love because You first loved me.

Declare Over Yourself

I am loved by God with an everlasting love.

I am not defined by rejection, failure, or the opinions of others.

I do not have to earn God's love.

I choose to release fear and self-protection that keep me from healthy connection.

I will practice forgiveness.

I will practice vulnerability with wisdom.

I will honor healthy boundaries while remaining open to meaningful connection.

I will love others as Christ has loved me.

I choose love over fear.

I choose connection over isolation.

I choose forgiveness over resentment.

I choose God's truth over the lies rejection has taught me.

I am deeply loved by God, and His perfect love drives out fear.
