The Purpose of Life
1) There Is Power in the Name of Jesus
As Christians, we believe that there is authority and power in the name of Jesus.
Jesus' name is not a magical phrase or something we use to control situations. The power belongs to Jesus Himself.
When we pray in Jesus' name, we are placing our trust in His authority, character, and will.
Through the Holy Spirit, God can work through believers in powerful ways. Scripture describes believers praying for healing, encouraging others, sharing the gospel, confronting spiritual darkness, serving people in need, and speaking words that bring hope and life.
Jesus told His followers:
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses."
— Acts 1:8
The purpose of this power is not to make us feel important or powerful.
It is to point people toward Jesus.
God may use you to pray for someone who is hurting.
He may use your words to encourage someone who has lost hope.
He may give you wisdom for a difficult situation.
He may use your testimony to help someone recognize God's love.
He may call you to stand against something that is destructive or spiritually harmful.
The focus should always come back to Christ.
The power is God's. The glory belongs to Jesus. We are vessels He can choose to work through.

How can I allow God to use my words, actions, gifts, or experiences to point someone else toward Jesus?
2) Learning to Hear and Follow God's Direction
Growing spiritually also means learning to recognize God's guidance.
The Holy Spirit can lead and prompt us, but learning to recognize His voice requires relationship, Scripture, prayer, wisdom, and discernment.
Not every thought, feeling, opportunity, or impulse comes from God.
This is why Christians should not just ask:
"What do I feel like doing?"
Instead, we can learn to ask:
Does this align with God's Word?
Does this reflect the character of Jesus?
Am I being led by love or by fear?
Is this drawing me closer to God or further away?
Have I prayed about this?
Have I given God time to speak through Scripture and wise counsel?
What fruit could this decision produce?
As we grow in our relationship with God, we become more familiar with His character, His ways, and His voice.

Is there a decision or situation in my life where I need to slow down, pray, and seek God's direction instead of simply following my feelings?
3) Earthly Life Is a Place of Growth
One of the most important things to understand about life is that becoming Christian does not mean that you immediately “have it all together.”
You will still make mistakes.
You will still experience temptation.
You will still struggle with emotions.
You will still have questions.
You will still experience disappointment and pain.
But you do not have to remain the same person.
The Holy Spirit works within us to transform us.
Galatians 5 describes the "fruit of the Spirit" as: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
This gives us a picture of what spiritual growth looks like.
Spiritual maturity is not simply knowing more Bible verses.
It is becoming more loving.
More patient.
More forgiving.
More self-controlled.
More compassionate.
More courageous.
More obedient to God.
More like Jesus.

4) Your Everyday Life Has Spiritual Meaning
Sometimes we think that only obvious "Christian" activities are spiritual.
Going to church feels spiritual.
Reading the Bible feels spiritual.
Praying feels spiritual.
But what about going to work?
Raising children?
Going to school?
Taking care of your home?
Having difficult conversations?
Helping a neighbor?
Managing your money?
Choosing how you respond when someone hurts you?
These things matter too.
Following Jesus means allowing the Holy Spirit to influence every part of our lives.
Your workplace can become a place to demonstrate integrity.
Your relationships can become opportunities to practice love and forgiveness.
Your struggles can become opportunities to develop faith.
Your resources can become opportunities to serve.
Your words can bring encouragement instead of destruction.
Your decisions can reflect God's wisdom.
Your ordinary life can become an expression of your faith.

What is one ordinary part of my life that I can begin viewing as an opportunity to honor God?
5) So, What Does Life on Earth Mean for a Christian?
Life on earth is not simply about surviving until we get to heaven.
It is an opportunity to know God, grow in Christ, love people, serve others, develop spiritual maturity, and participate in what God is doing in the world.
We are here for a purpose.
We are learning.
We are growing.
We are being transformed.
We are being prepared.
And through the Holy Spirit, we do not have to walk through this life alone.
The question is not simply:
"What am I going to do with my life?"
A deeper question is:
"God, what do You want to do in my life, and how can I allow You to work through me?"
That is the beginning of learning to live through a spiritual lens.

6) God's Promises to Remember
God promises to produce His fruit in you.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."
— Galatians 5:22–23
God promises to give wisdom when we ask.
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."
— James 1:5
God promises to work all things for good.
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
— Romans 8:28
Closing Prayer
Father God, thank You for reminding me that my life has purpose and that I do not have to walk through it alone. Holy Spirit, help me see my circumstances through a spiritual lens. Give me wisdom to recognize Your guidance, strength to follow You, and discernment to know what is true.
Help me remember that even in difficult seasons, You are still working. Grow the fruit of Your Spirit within me—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Jesus, help me become more like You in the way I speak, think, love, serve, and respond to others. Use my everyday life for Your purposes and help me trust You with what I cannot understand.
Holy Spirit, help me see my life the way You see it and allow You to work through me.
